Book 7, 25. How Marileif Was Despoiled
Marileif, who had been the chief physician in the household of Chilperic,1 was also hard beset by them, and though already once robbed by Duke Gararic,2 was now stripped a second time, so that a clean sweep was made of all that he had. They carried off his horses, his gold and silver, and any other precious things, and subjected him to the authority of the Church. His father had in his time the care of the church mills, while his brothers, cousins, and other kinsmen had been employed in the royal kitchens and the bakery
