History of the Franks

St Gregory of Tours, tr. Dalton, 1927

Book 5, 31. Of the Stratagem of the Bretons

In this year1 the Bretons sorely harassed the tract round about the cities of Nantes and Rennes. They carried off immense spoils, overran the fields, stripped the vineyards of grapes, and took away many prisoners. Bishop Felix2 sent envoys to them, and they promised to amend their ways, but would not keep any of their promises.
