Rule 218: What Manner of Understanding Ought We to Ask from God, and How Can We Become…
We learn the kind of understanding from God Himself Who says through the prophet: “Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, and let not the strong man glory in his strength, and let not the rich man glory in his riches. But let him that glorieth glory in this, in understanding and knowing the Lord1; and He said through the apostle: “But understanding what the will of the Lord is.”2 And we can become worthy of this understanding if we do what is written:3 Be at leisure and know that I am God “4; and if we are persuaded that every word of God is true. “For if ye believe not “it says ‘ye will not understand.”5
