St Basil the Great, tr. Lowther Clarke, 1925
Rule 132: What of the Man Who Says, This Harms Me, and Grieves If Something Else is Not…
Clearly he has not got the hope that Eleazar1 possessed nor does he know the love of him2 who is entrusted with the care of all, including himself. But generally speaking a man ought not to allow himself to judge about what is harmful or beneficial, but should leave it to him to whom is entrusted the task of judging what is beneficial to each man and who seeks primarily the benefit of his soul and in the second place cares for the needs of his body according to the will of God.
